This project is located at the main staircase of the Arts Building on the University of Alberta Campus.  Our company was contracted by the University of Alberta to disassemble and catalogue the stone elements, reconstruct the foundation and stair supports, and reassemble the stone pieces.  The front foundation wall underneath the staircase experienced stress due to settlement throughout the years.  The foundation wall failed as there was no steel reinforcing embedded in the concrete to counteract the tensile forces put onto the foundation from the settlement.  We constructed a 200mm thick structural slab with 12 pilings, and rebuilt the stair supports with reinforced concrete block.  This project was very unique because of the unforeseen foundation conditions and the intricacy of the stone lements.
